Yagi Kou Boku takes its name directly from its ingredients: Yagi (山羊), goat, Kou (膠), glue, and Boku (墨), ink.

Goat glue is an uncommon binder in inkstick-making, and here it's used for how well the ink extends across paper, letting a stroke carry its color further and more evenly than it might with a more everyday glue.

That makes it a natural fit for calligraphy, where a long, unbroken line depends on the ink holding its consistency from the first touch of the brush to the last.
