Product information

Hourai — 蓬 (hou) 莱 (rai) — takes its name from a sacred land said in ancient Chinese lore to lie somewhere in the eastern sea, home to hermits and immortals.

Made from oil smoke drawn from 400 years of ink making at Kobaien, this bluish-black ink carries the pure colour of soot alone: slightly grayish, with a quiet hint of weight, well suited to both calligraphy and ink painting.
