Seien Koukaboku is made from rapeseed oil and is the finest quality oil smoke ink with the finest particles. It  is the highest quality model of the six Koukaboku ink sticks.

The ink spreads well, and the darker the ink, the more lustrous and pure black it becomes, and the lighter the ink, the more brownish black it becomes.

    聖 ( sei : holy )

    紅 ( kou : crimson )

    花 ( ka: flower )

    墨 ( boku : ink )

In 1739, Matsui,Motoyasu, the sixth successor of Kobaien, went to Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan.

There he interacted with  ink craftsmen of the Qing dynasty and collaborated with them on the production of ink. Koukaboku is one of the best inks born from that study.

Koukaboku is also known as “Ohanzumi ( The ink of flower ) “. Seien, five-star and four-star Koukaboku inks are made from rapeseed oil. Three-star, two-star, and one-star Koukaboku inks are made from Kouba-en’s original mineral oil.
