Saibiboku — "the ink of colour and beauty" — is not sold as a full palette here, but one shade at a time, six tablets to a set.
Each colour still begins the same way: Kobaien's Koukaboku, ground from rapeseed-oil soot, worked into fine particles and blended with pigments from Kissho, one of Kyoto's oldest gansai makers, so the glue in the ink lends every hue its quiet lustre.
What changes is the logic of buying it. Painters rarely use twenty colours evenly — most return again and again to two or three: a Sumi Gunjo for shadow, a Sumi Beni for warmth.
This format lets you restock exactly those, without paying again for shades that sit untouched in a box. It suits a palette already found, more than one still being discovered — the ink you already reach for, simply kept within reach.

Saibiboku ( The Ink of Color and Beauty ) is a watercolor paint set made from a combination of Kobaien's high quality Koukaboku ink and high quality pigments from Kissho, a specialist shop in Japanese paints.
These paints are made of ink kneaded with glue. This makes it possible to express beautiful colors with the transparency and luster of Gansai ( a special pigment for Japanese traditional watercolor paintings ) colors. The colors have more depth and serenity than those of ordinary Gansai for ink painting.
Note:
These paints are made with less glue than usual. When making a scroll, or using it as a primer for natural mineral pigment painting, dissolve the paint in a separate dish and add new glue solution.
