Suibokugayou-Aozumi — literally "seiboku for suminga," an ink for painting — takes its name from exactly what it is: 水墨 (suiboku, ink painting) 画用 (gayou, for painting) 青墨 (aozumi, blue-black ink).
Genuine indigo is worked into fine oil-smoke soot and glue, developed over years of Kobaien's research, to hold onto its blue even at full strength — where most blacks turn simply dark, this one stays visibly, unmistakably blue. It is built for the moment in a painting when black alone would flatten the scene: a mountain fading into mist, water holding a trace of sky, shadow that needs to breathe rather than sit inert on the page.
