Shakyouboku — 写 (sha, copying) 経 (kyou, sutras) — was developed specifically for the practice of copying Buddhist sutras.

Belonging to Shitsuboku, the grade held to be the finest of all Kobaien inksticks, it's made from exactly the same top-quality canola-oil soot and the same method as Baikaboku,, differing only in shape. Pushed dark, it turns a shining, pure black; thinned, a warm brownish black.

A stick made for the slow, deliberate discipline its name describes — one unhurried stroke at a time.
