Shou Kana Joufuku takes its name plainly from what it's built for: Shou (小), small, Kana (仮名), Japanese phonetic script, Joufuku (条幅), large-format paper — a small brush meant for kana calligraphy on large sheets.
Made entirely of 100% wool by Chiyomi Tanaka, one of only seven certified traditional brush artisans in Nara, Japan, and the only woman among them profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine., it's exceptionally soft, built to let the brush's own give shape the elegant, flowing lines kana work depends on.
At 265mm overall, with a 52mm head and 7mm thickness, it's compact but capable of real reach across a large sheet.
One reviewer called it "extraordinary quality" and highly recommended it.
As with all Tanaka's brushes, expect small natural variations since each is shaped by hand, and please check your country's import regulations for natural animal hair before ordering.
