Sakura — さくら, "cherry blossom" — is a small brush blending white horse, weasel, and deer belly hair by Chiyomi Tanaka, one of only seven certified brush artisans working in Nara today and the only woman among them to be profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine.
Slender and delicate, it carries something of its namesake flower in the hand — light, precise, and suited to the fine, careful strokes that finer work calls for, the kind of brush that seems to bloom softly across the page rather than press into it.
