Nochikujou-Seishou — 野 (no, wild) 竹 (chiku, bamboo) 上 (jou, above) 青 (sei, blue) 霄 (shou, sky) — belongs to the Seiboku line, made from Kobaien's finest oil smoke and counted among the most vividly blue in the family.
Genuine indigo carries the colour, giving a brilliant, vibrant blue-black well suited to both calligraphy and ink painting — the kind of stick reached for when a work asks for blue that reads as blue, not merely a cool shadow of black.
