Dai Go Renge — 大 (dai, big size) 剛 (gou, hard) 蓮華 (renge, lotus flower) — is a firm-bristled brush made for beginners writing on Japanese hanshi paper, suited to standard block-letter script (kaisho).
Made by Chiyomi Tanaka one of only seven certified brush artisans working in Nara today and the only woman among them to be profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine., this wool, horse-tail, and tanuki-hair blend gives new practitioners the firm, dependable structure that clean, upright strokes ask for — the kind of stick a hand can trust while it's still learning what it can do.
