How do I choose the right size/weight of inkstick?

Grinding an inkstick takes a similar amount of time regardless of its size — a smaller stick simply runs out sooner.

For that reason, size mainly affects how long the stick will last, not how quickly you can produce ink in a single sitting.

Smaller sticks (around 5–10g) are a good way to try a new type of ink without a big commitment.

That said, some people find a size 0.5 inkstick too small to be practical to use.

Larger sticks become more economical per gram over time and are worth choosing once you've found an ink you use regularly.
