Koufu — 江 (kou, bay) 風 (fu, wind) — is a soft, medium-sized brush made mostly of wool by Chiyomi Tanaka, one of only seven certified brush artisans working in Nara today and the only woman among them to be profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine..
Its softness gives a gentle, forgiving touch on paper — the kind of ease its name suggests, like a breeze moving quietly off the water, drifting rather than pushing across the page.
