Koubai — 紅梅, "red plum" — is a fine, precise brush made from Kolinsky (Siberian weasel) hair by Chiyomi Tanaka, one of only seven certified brush artisans working in Nara today and the only woman among them to be profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine.
Slender and disciplined, it's built for the kind of detail work that calls for a springy, resilient tip — the same quiet confidence that gives a single plum blossom its whole shape in just a few strokes.
