Kin Sakuramon — 金 (Kin, gold), Sakuramon (cherry blossom crest) — is a wonderful inkstick made from the smoke of the finest canola oil with ultra-fine particles, finished in gold leaf and suited to calligraphy.
Kobaien applies gold leaf for three reasons: for beauty, for preservation since gold resists chemical change over long years, and for practice — calligraphers have long said gold particles smooth the brush's glide, making it especially suited to Kuzushiji, Japanese cursive script.
A small, gilded emblem of cherry blossom carried in a single stick, ready to be ground into ink whenever the moment calls for something a little more ceremonial.
