Dai Renge — 大 (dai, big) 蓮華 (renge, lotus flower) — is a soft, easy-handling mixed-hair brush suited equally to practice, standard block-letter script (kaisho), and the more flowing, connected strokes of running script (gyosho).
Made by Chiyomi Tanaka, one of only seven certified brush artisans working in Nara today and the only woman among them to be profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine. this wool, horse-tail, and tanuki-hair blend gives the hand room to loosen — the kind of brush that lets a line breathe as the writing quickens.
