Asuka — 飛鳥, named after a place in Nara — is a small brush of fine weasel hair by Chiyomi Tanaka, one of only seven certified brush artisans working in Nara today and the only woman among them to be profiled by The New York Times Style Magazine., made for writing kana.
Asuka was once the seat of Japan's earliest capitals, and this brush carries something of that quiet gravity in miniature — precise enough for the smallest strokes, steady enough to trust with a full page of flowing kana.
